introduced the CBX550F in 1983 to the Canadian market
but unfortunatly not into the US market. The CBX550
was produced for only 1 year. It repre- sented a
new generation of four cylinder motor-cycles, combining
light weight and agility with remarkable performance |

                            | in a relatively small bike. The motor is an inline
4 cylinder with characteristics that resemble a
750cc machine of the time, offering a high top speed
but retaining a smooth spread of power even at lower
engine speeds. The chassis incorporated a number
of innovations, the most important being the inboard
ventilated twin front and single rear disc brakes.
Honda incorporated a drum enclosure that protects
the ventilated discs from rain and permits the use
                              of cast iron

of rusting. The discs are unusual in motorcycle
applications, the outer edge forming the mounting
points with the caliper griping from the inner
edges. The caliper units are of twin piston design,
both pistons acting from one side. The wheels
are made of composite construction, light alloy
rims rivited to three paired alloy spoke sections
that bolted through the brake hub. The front suspension
                                is by oil-damped |

the left hand fork leg incorporating an anti-dive
                              mech-anism
that reacts to torque loadings to increase damping
resistance under heavy braking. The rear suspension
is by Pro-link, a Honda designed rising rate system
which allows compliant, long travel suspension for
comfort and control over rough roads. A single central
shock unit also features air assistance to allow
                              fine tuning your ride.
